Orbit 0.2.6
8 October 2026 · build 9
Fixed
Liquid Glass theme: the strip around the sidebar and the preview panel, with its rounded inner corners, is now frosted like the rest of the window instead of showing the desktop through it.
Orbit 0.2.5
7 October 2026 · build 8
New
Liquid Glass theme (macOS 26): each pane floats as a clear glass card, with your desktop showing through, on a frosted window background. Choose it in Settings › Appearance › Theme. The Transparency slider runs from clear glass to frosted.
Fixed
Switching from the Dark theme to a theme that follows the system now brings the window back to the system's light or dark appearance.
Orbit 0.2.4
6 October 2026 · build 7
New
Orbit can take over “Show in Finder” in other apps: choose Make Orbit the Default in Settings › General, or in the setup assistant. Restore Finder switches it back. Opening folders from other apps stays with Finder, because macOS 26.4 doesn't let other apps take that over.
Folders and files sent to Orbit from other apps, the Reveal in Orbit service, orbit:// links, AppleScript and Shortcuts open in a new tab of the front window, or in a tab that already shows that folder, instead of replacing the folder you were in.
Improved
Reveal in Finder selects the items in Finder. The first time, macOS asks whether Orbit may control Finder; if you don't allow it, Orbit opens the enclosing folder in Finder instead.
A folder you open with Orbit while it is starting lands in your restored windows.
Orbit 0.2.3
6 October 2026 · build 6
New
Orbit reopens the windows you had open when you quit, with their tabs, panes, folders and sizes.
Fixed
A new window now opens at a comfortable size instead of the smallest possible one, and saved workspaces open at the size they were saved with.
Orbit 0.2.2
6 October 2026 · build 5
Improved
Moving through a long list with the arrow keys is much faster, and the list scrolls smoothly with the cursor instead of stuttering.
Fixed
Clicking a file no longer scrolls the list to keep the cursor centered; that now happens only when you move with the keyboard.
Buttons in the button bar no longer jump from one side to the other when you click one, such as Show Hidden Files.
Orbit 0.2.1
6 October 2026 · build 4
Fixed
In the List view, names with a git status dot are no longer shortened with "…" when there is room to show them in full.
Orbit 0.2.0
6 October 2026 · build 3
New
Find in Files (⌥⇧⌘F, or Alt+Shift+F7 in the Commander preset): search the text of every file under the current folder and see the matching lines, grouped by file, in a panel at the bottom of the window. Choose plain text or a regular expression, the case, whole words and which files to search (for example *.swift, !Tests/**). Return opens the file's folder with the file selected. It uses the bundled ripgrep, so it is fast on large source trees.
Orbit 0.1.1
5 October 2026 · build 2
Improved
Each pane shows its tab bar from the start, so a new tab is one click away.
Fixed
Showing the button bar or the window tab bar no longer covers the top of the panes.
Orbit 0.1.0
5 October 2026 · build 1
The first public beta of Orbit.
New
Up to four panes in twelve layouts, each with its own tabs, history and view; save the arrangement as a workspace.
Your disks, archives, SFTP, FTP, WebDAV, S3, SMB and NFS servers and cloud drives side by side; F5 copies between any of them, with pause, resume and retry.
Keyboard first: Commander, Mac and Dolphin key presets, a command palette and a button bar.
Multi-Rename with masks, counters, regular expressions and a live preview; Compare & Sync for folders.
Quick Look, a built-in viewer for large files, checksums, a shelf, colour rules and a Finder extension.
